During my two-week stay at Daechon Farm, I gained hands-on experience in managing rice fields, focusing on irrigation and pest management. I tended to the rice fields twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. In addition to rice field management, I harvested blueberries and blackberries, trimmed 100 kg of garlic to prepare them for later use, and worked alongside two other farmers to harvest 600 kg of potatoes. These tasks allowed me to deepen my understanding of various aspects of farming and agricultural production.
One thing that surprised me during my time at the farm was the sheer amount of labor the farmers put in each day. Despite being in their 70s, the two farmers worked from 5 am to 9 pm with remarkable energy and dedication. It was even more astonishing considering they managed the entire 10-acre farm on their own, overseeing everything from planting to harvesting.
